Eduardo Zegarra: Urban-rural relations in Latin America
April 29, 2024 Rural development and agriculture
“For me, the most serious aspect of rural depression is that it expels young people and decapitalizes the rural producers’ sector and makes it unviable. While we can say that the urban-rural relationship has increased, the assymetries and disadvantages for rural dwellers have also increased”. Our senior researcher Eduardo Zegarra shares his thoughts on the evolution […]

If you add all this up, agricultural production has fallen 5% in the first six months of this year, […]

June 8, 2020 Rural development and agriculture
The sanitary crisis, due to the coronavirus in Peru, is also becoming a food crisis. Eduardo Zegarra shares his thoughts on the impact of the climate crisis on Peruvian agriculture. Via La República
May 22, 2023 Rural development and agriculture
“Farmers usually use a fraction of their production for their own food and with the resources obtained from the sale of their products they purchase other foods to complete their diet. Therefore, lower production means lower sales and, therefore, less income to cover their living expenses”. Read the comments of Eduardo Zegarra, Senior Researcher at […]

Eduardo Zegarra on the stagnation of fertilizer purchases: “The first negative effect is on the producer”

Eduardo Zegarra in La República: international price of urea shows decline

Eduardo Zegarra shares his opinion in Ojo Público on the risk of a food crisis in Peru
May 30, 2022 Rural development and agriculture, Health and nutrition
According to Eduardo Zegarra, the food crisis is an issue that exceeds the powers of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, so its solution should include more than one portfolio. Our Senior Researcher spoke of the possibility of organizing an emergency food commission: “The dimension of the problem has long since gone far beyond the […]

Eduardo Zegarra in Latina Noticias: “For two years we have had food inflation levels that exceed 10-12%. This hits the poorest households the hardest”.
September 2, 2023
“We have had food inflation levels exceeding 10-12% for two years now. This hits the poorest households the hardest. A poor household has lost purchasing power to buy food by almost 20% in this period. People are having to buy less food, of lower quality, and face situations of reduced food security”. How to reverse the price increase in products such as lemons? Eduardo Zegarra reflects in Canal N
September 1, 2023
“We are having the worst of all worlds. Eduardo Zegarra comments on measures to face a water crisis in the newscast La Encerrona
August 21, 2023 Natural resources, extractive industries and social conflict
The central measure is to generate a different institutional scheme to face these phenomena.
