New report on resilience in education systems in Latin America and the Caribbean
The AdaptED Observatory presents its first report on how education resilience is understood and incorporated in the systems of 11 GPE partner countries. Review and download the report.
The Observatory for Educational Resilience in Latin America and the Caribbean, AdaptED, has published its first report that seeks to open the conversation, be shared and commented among the different actors of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) partner countries: Belize, Dominica, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The report, which can be downloaded in English, French and Spanish, conducted a content analysis of the current general education laws, curriculum plans and strategic education plans of the 11 countries.
Based on a systematic literature review and content analysis of official documents, the report identified a set of threats that jeopardize the educational continuity of school systems: climate change, natural disasters, hurricanes, earthquakes, migration, violence, among others.
The report analyzed the frequency of these terms in the education law documents, curricula and strategic plans of the countries of interest. It also sought to identify how present the concept of educational resilience is in these frameworks, how it is understood by each country and whether there are explicit commitments to strengthening education systems in the face of crises, among other key aspects.
Part of the conclusions are that, for example, the notion of resilience appears in the strategic plans of 6 of the 11 GPE countries. Likewise, resilience as a concept is not part of the vocabulary of the ministries and their education plans, except in Dominica. For more detailed results, conclusions and challenges in the region, we invite you to download the report, share it and comment on it.
