“Fighting deforestation not only involves combating illegal mining and drug trafficking, but also tackling rural poverty and establishing rules to promote businesses in the Amazon that do not affect primary forests. Then we need a political agreement to ensure that protected areas and indigenous areas are properly respected. Nor can we undermine the capacity of agencies such as OEFA, Sernanp, Senace, and Minam itself.”
