Merely an illusion: aspiration changes over time and the effects of wealth on children’s accomplishment of educational and occupational aspirations in Peru

In a recent article based on the Young Lives longitudinal study, analyzes how educational and career expectations evolve from childhood to youth, and the factors that influence whether they are achieved. The results show that young people’s aspirations grow during school, but socioeconomic inequalities continue to limit their chances of achieving them, highlighting the need for public policies that reduce structural gaps and support their educational trajectories.
