GRADE (Group for the Analysis of Development) has, from 1970 onwards, accumulated a large volume of S&T and socio-economic indicators gathered in a database. The purpose of this database is to maintain updated statistical data which can be used to monitor the evolution of scientific production in the region, as well to assess its contribution to social and economic development. After two years of project implementation, this article is discussing the achievements and the reasons for its relative underutilization.
