Presentation

By October 2027, two priority Amazonian landscapes in Peru (Manu – Tambopata; Nanay – Allpahuayo Mishana) will have greater territorial resilience through the generation of strategic knowledge, inclusive dialogue, and the strengthening of environmental governance, including better management of protected areas and indigenous reserves.

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of local communities to exercise greater agency in the management of their territories. In partnership with civil society organizations and public institutions, these communities will actively participate in decision-making processes and public dialogues, contributing policy proposals and advocacy initiatives that promote more resilient, equitable, and environmentally sustainable governance in two Amazonian landscapes in Peru.

These landscapes—Manu National Park and Amarakaeri Communal Reserve in the southeast, along with Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve and Alto Nanay Regional Conservation Area in the northeast—face growing threats such as illegal mining and logging, unregulated agricultural expansion, road infrastructure projects that lack environmental safeguards, and the impacts of climate change. Indigenous and environmental rights defenders also face significant risks.

In response, the project will promote actions to improve territorial resilience through:

• Implementation of Master Plans,
• Strengthening governance capacities for conservation,
• Application of the mitigation hierarchy for infrastructure and energy projects,
• Promoting sustainable indigenous economies,
• Improving access to justice and safe environments for environmental and social defenders,
• And aligning territorial dynamics with national advocacy efforts, such as debates on new regulations or large-scale projects.

The methodological strategy combines participatory territorial analysis, collective proposal development, and advocacy actions to influence public decisions at the local and national levels.
