Presentation
This grant will support the continuing work of the PREAL Working Group on Standards and Evaluation.
In the next 9 months, the group will: hold at least four web and e-mail-based discussions on working group publications; help publish four books, three working papers reporting the results of the group’s studies, and three PREAL bulletins or briefs summarizing some of the group’s previosly published papers; translate three working group dopcuments into English and Portuguese; translate relevant papers published by third parties into Spanish; conduct a study on how standads have been set in select Latin American countries; produce a collective public statement of the functions and appropiate utilization of test results for the improvement of Latin American education; organize one meetinf of the working group’s core members; hold two conferences in support of evaluation policy, plans, and programs in selected countries; organize a competition to identify 4 journalist who best cover assessment processes and results throughout the region; maintain and improve its webpage; and contribute to the adaptation for Latin American audiences of the World Bank Institute’s in-depth course on national assesment.
