Our Senior Researchers, Santiago Cueto and María Balarin, and María Fernanda Rodríguez, Adjunct Resarcher at GRADE, will be speakers and discussants at the 70th Annual Conference of the Society for International and Comparative Education (CIES). Under the theme “Re-examining Education and Peace in a Divided World”, this year’s conference will take place from March 28 to April 1, 2026, in San Francisco.
On Saturday, March 28, María will participate in the session “Education Policy in Latin America from the Mid-2010s to the Present: A Fourth Wave of Education Reforms?” Her presentation will be titled: “The Undoing of Education: the corrupt takeover of the state and the dissolution of reform agendas (2011–2025).”
On Sunday, the 29th, María will present the book Education as and for Justice in the Global South, a publication based on the main ideas and findings of the three-year JustEd project.
On Wednesday, April 1, María will serve as a discussant at the book launch for Education and State in Latin America: Fault Lines, Foundations, and Alternatives. At the same time, Santiago will participate in the session Regional Perspectives on Education System Resilience: Insights from the Pacific, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. On the other hand, María Fernanda will present “Regulating enclosure through educational policy: Legacies of educational privatisation in Peru”, as part of the session Reimagining and restoring: Confronting structural violences and their legacies in education.
