“Today we have a tool in Peru that allows us to better align the entire information system. It allows other perspectives in terms of opportunities for rural development, including land use planning in urban areas, which is essential for generating information and making better public policy decisions”. Ricardo Fort, Senior Researcher at GRADE, joined the launch of the new Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) Satellital Atlas of National Agricultural Surface .
During his presentation, he also shared the work of GRADE using geospatial data: “Through satellite images, we have developed what is called the effective productive potential, which is the combination of the structure of the territory or how much the territory is linked to population nodes, financial systems, logistics, economic dynamics, through corridors and optimal routes with a lot of traffic, with a combination of the potential of the resources, that is, hectares, vegetation cover, major use, irrigation, and some other type of potential that can be tourism or aquaculture”.
