The Panguana Biological Station is a leading institution for scientific research and the conservation of Amazonian biodiversity, with more than five decades of work and over 300 scientific publications. Today, the surge of illegal mining in the Yuyapachis River basin (Huánuco region) threatens its territory, the safety of its, and the continuity of its research.
In response of this situation, GRADE—through its Resilient and Just Amazon initiative— along with the Panguana Foundation, the German Embassy in Lima and the Observatory on Illegal Mining, is organizing a meeting to present evidence, hear testimony from Juliane Koepcke, and promote dialogue on the actions needed to protect Panguana.
