Several of our senior researchers and research assistants will be speakers, discussants and chairpersons at the biennial event of the Permanent Seminar for Agricultural Research SEPIA XVII, from August 29 to 31 , in Cajamarca. This edition will focus on three core topics: value chains and their consequences for rural development, inequalities and inequities in the rural world, and rural landscapes: land, basin and rural development.
On Tuesday 29, Javier Escobal will discuss on the second parallel session on inequalities and inequitiues in the rural world.
On Wednesday 30, a day that will address the value chains and their consequences for rural development, Héctor Paredes and Ricardo Fort will present “On the margins of the agro-export boom: articulation of small producers to global value chains“. In the first parallel session, Javier Escobal and Carmen Armas will present “From La Parada to Santa Anita’s Wholesale market: Effects on margins, competitiveness and efficiency of the potato production and marketing chain“. During the second parallel session, Héctor Paredes (together with Ricardo Vargas) will present “Agricultural value chains and their impact on the productivity and income of medium and small producers: evidence for the Peruvian case“. Eduardo Zegarra will lead the discussion.
On Thursday 31, closing day that will address the land, basin and rural development, Manuel Glave will dicuss on Mireya Bravo’s lecture, “Rural landscapes in Peru: understanding approaches and perspectives”. During the second session of the day, Andrea Ramos and Karla Vergara will present “Changes in agricultural activity in a context of climate change and water stress. The case of the basins of Ica and Pampas “.
