In recent decades, Chile and Peru have achieved sustained economic growth from the exploitation of their natural resources and the expansion of their extractive industries. In this development model, mining has played a central role, specifically that both countries have large copper reserves and are leaders in its production, being the first and second producer worldwide, respectively.
In this context, and with the aim of contributing to dialogue on the matter, Public Space and GRADE, with the support of the Ford Foundation, a report that reviews the experience of dialogue between the different actors in the territory and proposes recommendations for public policy.
The study, part of the project “Evaluation of participatory schemes in extractive industries: a comparative analysis between Chile and Peru”, was presented on July 30 by Violeta Rabi, researcher at Espacio Público, and Manuel Glave, senior researcher at GRADE.
The event will have a panel discussion that will be moderated by Andrea Sanhueza, director of Espacio Público, and will include the participation of Raúl Molina, former Deputy Minister of Territorial Governance of Peru; Danae Mlynarz, consultant and manager of the Institutionality of Territorial Dialogue project of the Chilean Mining Value Alliance; Angélica France, facilitator of participation processes for an investment project and former employee of the Chilean Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change; and Juan Luis Dammert, regional director of the Latin American Institute of Governance of Natural Resources.
