Building Education System Resilience in a Poly-Crisis: Regional Perspectives. New blog by Aranza Ballesteros, Santiago Cueto and co-authors
What does it take to build education systems capable of withstanding constant disruptions?
The new NORRAG blog post brings together regional perspectives on the resilience of education systems. Its authors are members of the Observatories for the Resilience of Education Systems initiative under the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX).
Key takeaways:
✅ Resilience manifests differently across regions, languages, and knowledge systems.
✅ Policies often prioritize preparedness and strengthening the education system over the concept of resilience.
✅ Many responses continue to address crises after they have occurred, rather than taking a forward-looking approach.
✅ Vulnerable students continue to face the greatest risks.
✅ True resilience depends on long-term planning, local ownership, and sustained investment.
Two of the authors, Aranza Ballesteros, a research assistant at GRADE, and Santiago Cueto, a senior researcher at GRADE, are part of the AdaptED team, the Observatory for Educational Resilience in Latin America and the Caribbean, led by GRADE, el Laboratorio de Investigación e Innovación en Educación para América Latina y el Caribe (Summa), and UNICEF Latin America and Caribbean, with support from KIX LAC Hub LAC and IDRC.
