Escobal, J. (2006). Desarrollando mercados rurales: el rol de la incertidumbre y la restricción crediticia. Lima: GRADE. Documento de trabajo, 49.

The study evaluates which are the most relevant factors for a small farmer to demand technical assistance in order to enter “dynamic” markets; that is, markets that can absorb increasing quantities of his crop.

The results show that there is a segment of producers whose “distance” to these markets is not so significant that they cannot enter them. However, restrictions associated with the degree of organization of producers, their perception of risk and the possibilities of accessing the credit market prevent them from accessing the additional benefits that these markets offer.
