Glave, M. (1995). La investigación del medio ambiente en el Perú : balance y perspectivas. Lima : CIES.

This report is divided into six parts. First, the terms of reference of the study are specified, especially what is understood by environmental research from the social sciences. This section discusses some dividing lines between research and advocacy, between social sciences and natural sciences, and between environmental issues and natural resource management issues. It also presents some reflections for the elaboration of a typology (map) of institutions working on environment and resources in Peru, specifying not only their professional profile but also their origin and evolution in the last 15 years and recent trends towards the formation of thematic networks. A second section is devoted to distinguishing environmental economics from natural resource economics. Here we present not only what economic theory says about it, but also what researchers in Peru perceive and conceptualize it. The next two sections present the balance of the research itself, making an effort to separate the work on environmental research from the work and problems directly associated with resource management. Once the panorama of environmental and natural resources research in Peru is presented, a research agenda collected during the interviews is discussed. Finally, some general guidelines for the definition of an environmental policy in Peru are presented.
