This paper presents the initial results of the third round of surveys in Peru of the long-term Young Lives study. Fieldwork was conducted between late 2009 and early 2010 with children in two age groups, called cohorts. The text provides a broad overview of some indicators of child poverty and changes in children’s lives between the first two rounds of surveys, conducted in 2002 and 2006, and this third round. The data are presented mainly for all age groups, and in most cases, they are grouped by gender, socio-economic levels, locality (rural/urban) and mother’s mother tongue (as an indicator of race or ethnicity). In this way, conditions are provided to make comparisons between children in the older age group (older cohort) – who were 8 years old in 2002 (first round) – and the younger age group (younger cohort) – who were the same age in 2009 (third round) – to highlight the changes that occurred in their communities during that time.
