Presentation
The study has two objectives. The first one is to describe how the demographic characteristics of teachers, their formation and professional experience and their commitment and satisfaction with their work interact and relate to teacher absenteeism in educational institutions in urban and rural zones. The second objective is to study the relation existing between teacher absenteeism and primary students’ performance in mathematics and communication, after controlling by students, school and context variables. The study will use the School Survey of the longitudinal Young Lives study with information from 132 public schools in 9 regions of Peru. Multivariate regression models (linear and non-linear) will be estimated to identify what teacher variables are associated to absenteeism. In addition, given the hierarchical structure of the database, multi-level regression models will be used to relate teacher absenteeism to students’ performance.
It is expected that the results will inform and enrich the debate and design of education policies related to teaching work.
