This chapter consists of five sections, in addition to the introduction. Section 2 describes the conceptual and methodological framework that the various studies commissioned have adopted when assessing the impacts that the programs studied have had on family farming (AF for short in Spanish). Section 3 summarizes the basic characteristics of the programs chosen as case studies, showing that they can be grouped differently according to the type of intervention and incentive structure they generate. Section 4 then summarizes the good and bad practices identified by the authors of the case studies, indicating their potential and limitations as AF support instruments. Section 5 makes a comparative evaluation of the instruments that form part of the programs studied and identifies the most efficient instruments for offsetting the impacts of trade liberalization on AF and the most suitable instruments for strengthening this sector in the face of the intensification of trade liberalization. Finally, Section 6 outlines the main lessons learned and proposes possible strategic guidelines for strengthening AF support programs and policies in the context of trade liberalization.
