Private participation in the education markets has grown significantly in recent years, both in Lima and in the rest of Peru. This has given rise to research on the state of private schools, especially in the emerging and low-income sectors. These studies have focused on analyzing the behavior of demand, that is, on the decisions of families that send their children to private schools.
This study complements these analyzes with a look at the educational offer that allows a better understanding of the functioning of the education market in our country. The study focuses on three key aspects of the functioning of schools: the educational business; the school organization; and schools as work centers. The study compares private and public schools in an emblematic district of the emerging Lima that besides being the most populated in the city, is the one where private education has shown the greatest growth in recent decades: San Juan de Lurigancho.
