In territories with large-scale mining, the construction of water infrastructure has generally been considered the most appropriate response to water scarcity problems. However, the infrastructure itself does not always provide solutions. When these constructions are mainly functional to the mining expansion and are imposed on the socio-environmental logic of the town, they end up aggravating the problems of water stress and inequality in access to water.
To account for the debates and implications regarding infrastructure in mining contexts, this document analyzes similar processes related to infrastructure that occur in large mining contexts in Peru and Colombia.
