This guide presents the criteria of the methodology originally proposed and applied in the pilot regions (La Libertad, Pasco and Moquegua). One of these criteria is to have established the informal mining production unit (UPMI) as the sampling unit, and its driver as the interlocutor for the data collection. Another criterion is the requirement that the basic data collection be carried out in the informal mining operations themselves, which allows the information provided by the mining drivers to be verified in situ and then systematize the information in geo-referenced form in a database integrated into the system of the Ministerio de Energia y Minas (MEM).
