Guerrero, G. (2013). ¿Cómo afectan los factores individuales y escolares la decisión de los jóvenes de postular a educación superior? Un estudio longitudinal en Lima, Perú (Documentos de Investigación N° 69). Lima: GRADE.

The results suggest that a set of individual and school factors predict young people’s post-secondary enrolment one year after graduating from secondary school. Students who have at least one parent with higher education are almost twice as likely to apply to higher education as their peers whose parents have only primary education, while students from educational institutions where more action was taken to favour their application are 1.25 times more likely to apply to higher education than their peers from institutions where less institutional support is offered, even after controlling for individual and school-level variables. Regarding the process of applying to higher education, students report that during the process they face not only financial but also psychological barriers, mainly related to the lack of information about what and where to study and adequate support from family and school.
