Areas : Rural development and agriculture, State reform and public institutions
Researcher/s in charge : Eduardo Zegarra
Execution time:July 2005

Presentation

The objective of the study is to increase the technical and scientific support for the implementation of an agricultural insurance scheme in the Peruvian Coast, based upon the analysis of a specific survey carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and in the context of the workings of the National Agricultural Insurance Commission.

The research will seek to estimate quantitatively the differentiated impacts of covariate or idiosyncratic events on yields and net incomes of farmers. It will contribute to the domestic debate on the usefulness of traditional versus index-based insurance policies, and also to the international debate on these issues.
