Presentation

In 2018, the National Police of Peru (PNP) created the Home Visitation Squad that is responsible for visiting once only women who report partner violence in police stations. The visits take place in a particular vulnerability advantage: between the presentation of the complaint and the granting of a precautionary measure (between 2 to 4 weeks). The Program only works in Lima.

The aim of this project is to carry out an experimental evaluation that introduces improvements in how the Program is being operated. Next to the control group, three experimental conditions will be worked on. (a) The first is based on the delivery of training (gender roles, stereotypes and discrimination, and causes, factors, types and manifestations of gender violence) to police officers in police stations. (b) The second involves the use of improved instruments to assess the risk of violence and harassment. On this basis, the frequency of visits will vary (more risk, more visits). (c) The third experimental group integrates the two previous ones. Work will be carried out with 16 of 104 police stations in Lima and data will be collected from a sample of 1,600 women. During 2017, 48 thousand protection measures were registered.
