In agreement with the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), GRADE has been executing the study “Cost benefit analysis of the Boca Manu – Boca Colorado road with and without externalities”. The study complements the research on sustainable infrastructure in the Peruvian Amazon that has a national scope in the context of the updating process of the PNIC (National Plan of Infrastructure for Competitiveness). The Boca Manu – Boca Colorado section, in the Alto Madre Dios basin, is one that would allow almost complete road connectivity from Cusco in what a few decades ago was known as the “Marginal de la Selva Sur”, but which is framed in through protected areas (such as the Manu National Park) and indigenous territories (such as the Native Communities that manage the Amarakaire Communal Reserve). In addition to compiling existing information (layout, previous studies) on the Boca Manu – Boca Colorado road interconnection and secondary information regarding the analysis of the economic viability of similar projects (especially in the Madre de Dios Region and its interconnections with the Cusco Regions and Puno), the study implies the estimation of the road’s social profitability indicators, both not including and including the main social and environmental externalities associated with the investment project. To complete the study, activities will be programmed to socialize and validate the products at the regional and national levels, as required, and a policy document on the Boca Manu – Boca Colorado road interconnection – version with externalities will be prepared.
