According to the Ministry of Education, 230 thousand students have left the educational system this year. What factors are associated with school dropout? The study by Santiago Cueto, country director of Young Lives Peru and Executive Director at GRADE, and colleagues find two main ones: the need to work and the lack of interest in studying. “It is necessary to reinforce the idea that when a young person drops school it is a tragedy that will have an impact on their abilities to function as an adult and on their possibilities of obtaining an income,” he says.
