Poverty rises in Peru for the first time in 10 years: why did it happen?
Why did monetary poverty grow in Peru for the first time in 10 years? Our senior researcher, Hugo Ñopo, said in CNN that there are two main factors: the Peruvian economy has stopped growing as before and the changes in social policy. He explained that “if we grow less, there is higher unemployment, less money for households and, therefore, increases poverty.” In addition, a change in strategy is needed given that “removing the most vulnerable households from poverty is much more difficult”.
