GRADE joins an IDRC’s project on regenerative and inclusive agri-food systems in Latin America and the Caribbean
GRADE is part of a new IDRC’s project on how to accelerate the transition to regenerative and inclusive agrifood systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In the face of the vulnerability of natural ecosystems in Latin America and the Caribbean, and their impact on food security and livelihoods, an innovative business approach has emerged that contributes to the provision of and access to healthy food by local communities while protecting natural ecosystems. This “regenerative” business model places value creation within agroecological systems and the strengthening of community resilience at the heart of agricultural enterprises. It also encompasses regenerating social cohesion, fostering inclusion and gender equality, improving communities’ livelihoods, and increasing their resilience to shocks such as climate change and pandemics.
However, there is little evidence on the financial viability or social and environmental benefits of regenerative agribusinesses. This project addresses this gap and contributes with evidence and learning on the needs and impacts of regenerative agribusinesses using gender lens.
