What is expected from an economy in transformation? The research findings of our senior researcher Miguel Jaramillo on short-term contracts are highlighted by Alfredo Thorne, ex Minister of Economy and Finance. The main conclusion of the study is that there is a great labor mobility within formal employment: workers move between jobs, allowing them to migrate to more productive positions. However, mobility between the formal and informal sectors for workers who started their working life in some of these sectors is very limited and has been reduced in this decade. In a new research project, Jaramillo investigates the reasons for this low mobility and what factors could boost it.
