
Gabriel Wallin
Gabriel is an Assistant Professor of Statistics in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster University. He was a research fellow in the Department of Statistics at the London School of Economics and Political Science; previously, he was a postdoc at the French National Research Institute (INRIA). He received his PhD in 2020 from the Department of Statistics, Umea University (Sweden).
His research focuses on developing flexible statistical and machine learning methods to accurately identify latent (unobserved) structures in social, behavioral and health data. He has used these methods to study health inequalities, learning acquisition, equity in educational measurement, and interpretability in psychological tests. He frequently collaborates with experts from diverse fields of economics, psychology, political science and educational testing.
Is a member of the editorial board of the British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, as an independent editor. He is also an active member of the Psychometric Society and the Royal Statistical Society, where he serves on several committees. At Lancaster University, he is on the executive committee of STOR-i, a center for doctoral training in statistics and operations research.
Gabriel is visiting GRADE during January 2025 and will be working on projects with Santiago Cueto, senior researcher at GRADE.
