“It’s interesting because there is a tension in how social sciences are perceived as quite critical and dangerous. At the same time, they are also perceived as not very relevant and there is a common history in many countries.”
María Balarin, Senior Research at GRADE, was a panelist at a Global Development Network webinar on how to close the research gap and improve development policies in El Salvador. The discussion was part of the Doing Research program, which evaluates the characteristics of national research systems and their impact on the ability to produce, disseminate, and use quality research in the social sciences for the benefit of social and economic development.
In 2016, within the framework of Doing Research, GRADE, the Center for Analysis and Dissemination of the Paraguayan Economy (CADEP) and Fundación Aru prepared the document “The dynamics of production, circulation and use of social research in Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru: a comparative study”.
