The “Tax Policy and Demand for Tobacco in Peru” seminar, held by GRADE, the Peruvian Studies Institute (IEP) and the National Permanent Anti-Tobacco Control Commission (Colat) brought together forty specialists on health and tobacco control.
The event began with the presentation of Oscar Boggio, national consultant for chronic diseases of the Pan American Health Organization, “Tobacco and tax policy. Regional overview.”
Then, Martín Valdivia, senior researcher at GRADE, presented his study “Sensitivity of demand and taxes on tobacco: cross-sectional analysis”, and Carlos de los Ríos, senior researcher at the Institute of Peruvian Studies, presented “Demand for tobacco and tax policy: a look from the 1993-2017 time series “.
