Last Friday, October 4th, GRADE, AIDER and USAID Peru presented the systematization document of the Alianza Forestal Project (Forestry Alliance Project), which implemented a holistic approach to Communal Forest Management (CFM) in seven Cacataibo and Shipibo-Conibo indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon, in Ucayali. The document was prepared by Manuel Glave, Marcela Cavassa, Oriana Heredia and Karla Vergara.
The presentation was given by Manuel Glave, Senior Researcher at GRADE, and Marioldy Sanchez, Deputy Director of AIDER’s MBC Program. Comments were made by Gustavo Suárez de Freitas, coordinator of the Earth Innovation Institute’s Peru Program, and Eduardo Nugkuag, technical advisor of AIDESEP.
The CFM approach is based on the integration of the public and private sectors, with the objective of developing inclusive businesses, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and empowering indigenous communities to lead their own sustainable development.
The document analyzes the key results, enabling conditions and lessons learned from the project in order to promote the replication and scaling up of the CFM model, its management and strategies for building strategic alliances.
